Editor's note: Some of the images may be graphic for some readers WEST JORDAN — A fight between two tenants resulted in one man stabbing the other in the back with a hatchet, police said.

Just before 4 a.m., Douglas Overduyn, 51, of West Jordan, got into a verbal altercation with a 49-year-old man who also lived in the house, 2195 W. 7125 South, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Dan Roberts.

Overduyn allegedly punched the other man in the face.

"The victim punched the suspect back which knocked the suspect on the ground," a Salt Lake County Jail report states.

Overduyn allegedly responded by grabbing a hatchet from his room and hitting the man in the back on his left side. "The hit from the hatchet caused about a 4-inch laceration," the report states.

"It didn't go very far. It didn't do a whole lot of damage," Roberts said, adding that the victim "was expected to make a full recovery."

The two had lived together for about two years, according to police.

Overduyn was still in the house when officers arrived. He was booked into jail for investigation of aggravated assault.

Roberts said police are very familiar with the house, having been previously called there mainly for drug- and alcohol-related problems. The victim in Wednesday's stabbing was a suspect in an aggravated kidnapping case last year, he said.
