LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A Millville woman has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for her role in a drunken-driving crash that killed an owner of a popular coffee roasting house.
Prosecutors say 42-year-old Michelle Hoppie encouraged her boyfriend to get behind the wheel of her truck to go buy more beer. The truck collided with a car in Millville and then struck 68-year-old Randy Wirth, killing him in April.
The Herald Journal of Logan reports that Hoppie was sentenced Monday. She had pleaded guilty to third-degree felony vehicular homicide as part of an agreement with prosecutors.
In a written statement read in court Monday, Wirth's wife, Sally Sears, says she feels justice was not served.
Wirth was the co-founder of Caffe Ibis in Logan.
