PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Metal producer Allegheny Technologies has announced it will build a $325 million premium-grade titanium sponge facility at Rowley in Utah's Tooele County.
The facility will employ 150 and have an annual capacity of 24 million pounds, the company said Monday.
Titanium sponge is used to produce titanium mill products. Allegheny Technologies said the new plant is intended to increasing the company's capacity to produce titanium alloys for aerospace and defense industries.
Allegheny Technologies expects initial production to begin in the third quarter of 2008.
The expansion would bring the company's total annual titanium sponge capacity to approximately 40 million pounds.
The company said the jobs will pay an average of more than $45,000 annually.
The Governor's Office of Economic Development board offered ATI a tax incentive to build in Utah.
Allegheny can receive up to a 20 percent rebate in state taxes over 10 years, to a maximum $3.25 million.
