SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — Daisha Simmons had 19 points and seven steals on Tuesday night to lead No. 23 Seton Hall past Butler 70-65.
With the victory, Seton Hall (13-1, 2-0 Big East) earned its best start in program history one day after entering the Top 25 for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Butler (4-9, 0-2) never led in the second half but stayed close with the Pirates most of the way. Seton Hall used a late 10-3 run to get some separation at 62-52 with 2:18 left and led by at least seven until the Bulldogs' 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Ka-Deidre Simmons scored 17 points, Bra'Shey Ali had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Janee Johnson added 13 and eight.
Loryn Goodwin had 20 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals for Butler. Ijeoma Uchendu added 10 points and tied a season high with 20 rebounds.
