BALTIMORE (AP) — Corey Walden tied a career-high with 33 points and found Denzel Richardson for the game-winning 3-pointer as Eastern Kentucky beat Coppin State 66-63 on Tuesday.
Richardson, from Towson, Maryland, was just 1 of 6 from the field before his final shot with 0.3 seconds left. Walden made 13 of his 16 shots.
Coppin State's Dallas Gary made a layup and free throw with 26 seconds left to make it 63-all.
Eastern Kentucky (7-5) entered the game ranked seventh in the nation averaging 9.64 3-pointers per game. The Colonels were just 7 of 37 (25.9 percent) from long range against Coppin State.
Taariq Cephas led Coppin State (1-13) with 17 points. The Eagles were ranked 10th in the nation in 3-pointers made coming in and hit 12 of 20.
Walden scored 19 points in the first half as Eastern Kentucky led 31-28 despite being down by as many as 10 points.
