Editor's Note: The charge of retail theft was expunged from Sylvia Rowe's record on December 20, 2016. SALT LAKE CITY — Two women were arrested Monday after police said they stole food and other items from a grocery store.
The women took various items from the Smith’s at 922 E. 2100 South and left without paying at about 4:48 p.m., according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. Investigators said a female security guard confronted the women in the parking lot and asked them to stop, but they ignored the guard and got into a car together.
"(One of the women) then exited the passenger side of the vehicle, walked up to the victim and pushed her 'really hard' in the upper shoulders with both hands, causing the victim to fall onto her back on the asphalt," a probable cause statement reads.
The security guard was able to call in the car’s license plate, and officers used the information to locate the vehicle at a nearby address, according to detective Greg Wilking. He said 25-year-old Paisley Eresuma was arrested on suspicion of felony robbery, misdemeanor theft and unlawful possession of another person’s ID. Sylvia Rowe, 25, was also arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor retail theft. Both women were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
The security guard did not have any visible injuries and declined medical assistance on the scene, Wilking said.
