STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) — Sophomore Jimmie Taylor scored a career-high 25 points and Khalil Alford and Matt Lopez each hit buckets in the final 26 seconds as Rider held off a surging Wagner 76-71 on Monday night.
Taylor was 8 of 14 from the floor and sank 7 of 12 foul shots for Rider (7-6). Zedric Sadler added 17 points off the bench for the Broncs, who led ever since the score was 4-2. Lopez scored 12 with 13 rebounds.
The Seahawks (2-9) scored a quick 7-0 flurry after halftime and rallied with a late 14-4 run, closing to within 72-69 before calling their final timeout with 1:05 left. After the huddle JoJo Cooper stole the ball but Marcus Burton missed a 3-pointer, Rider got the board and Alford scored on a layup to ice it for Rider.
Romone Saunders led Wagner with 20 points, Burton had 15 and Cooper added 14.
