HOUSTON (AP) — Jherrod Stiggers hit a career-high eight 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead Houston to an 80-53 win over Mississippi Valley State on Sunday.
Cavon Baker added 13 points for Houston (7-4), Devonta Pollard scored 12 and Danrad Knowles had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Jeffrey Simmons made a layup with 17:49 left, pulling Mississippi Valley State (1-11) within five, 44-39. But Stiggers scored five-straight points to spark a decisive 27-7 run which gave Houston a 25-point lead with 4:51 remaining. Stiggers had 14 points during that stretch, including four 3-pointers.
Houston overcame its 18 turnovers by outrebounding Mississippi Valley State 44-24 and making a season-high tying 13 3-pointers.
Isaac Williams led MVSU, which made just 5 of 20 (25 percent) 3-pointers, with 12 points. Simmons and Jordan Washington scored 11 apiece.
