RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's attorney general plans to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review an appeals court ruling that the state's ultrasound law is unconstitutional.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported (http://bit.ly/1zmfX21) that Attorney General Roy Cooper plans to ask the high court to review the decision by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The Richmond, Virginia, court on Monday said North Carolina's law requiring abortion providers to show and describe an ultrasound to the pregnant woman violates doctors' free-speech rights.
Cooper is a Democrat and is considering a gubernatorial campaign in 2016. He said he personally opposes the 2011 law. But he wants the high court to clarify the issue, since appeals court have upheld laws in Texas and struck them down in Oklahoma and North Carolina.
