BALTIMORE (AP) — Hospital officials say a Baltimore-area woman is getting better after she was shot by her ex-boyfriend, who ambushed two New York police officers.

Karen Lancaster, a spokeswoman for the University of Maryland Medical Center, said Tuesday that 29-year-old Shaneka Thompson's condition is now serious. She had been in critical.

Police say Thompson was shot in the stomach early Saturday by Ismaaiyl Brinsley.

Police say Brinsley boarded a bus to New York shortly after shooting Thompson. Along the way, he posted threatening messages on social media including a vow to "put wings on pigs."

Baltimore County police said detectives were able to interview Thompson on Sunday. She told them Brinsley showed up unexpectedly and they got into an argument over the status of their relationship. He didn't talk about harming police.
