Norfolk State holds on for 74-71 OT win over James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Malik Thomas, scoreless throughout regulation, nailed a 3-point jumper in overtime to give Norfolk State the lead and the Spartans held on for a 74-71 victory over James Madison on Monday night.

Jeffrey Short, who finished with a career-high 30 points, made a free throw and Jamel Fuentes hit a jumper and a free throw as Norfolk State outscored the Dukes 9-6 in the extra period.

D'Shon Taylor had 11 points and Jordan Butler and RaShid Gaston chipped in 10 apiece for Norfolk State (9-5).

It was a see-saw battle throughout the second half with the Spartans ahead 65-61 with 1:32 left, Ron Curry made two free throws and hit a jump shot with 19 seconds left to pull even at 65 and send it in to overtime.

Jackson Kent scored 17, Yohanny Dalembert had 15 and Ron Curry added 13 for James Madison (7-5).
