EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Dexter Werner scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds as North Dakota State defeated Alcorn State 61-50 on Monday night in the consolation game of the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational.

Kory Brown added 12 points and Carlin Dupree 11 for the Bison (7-5). North Dakota State shot only 39.2 percent but that was still almost 10 percentage points better than Alcorn State at 29.8.

Marquis Vance had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Braves (1-10) with Reginald Johnson adding 10 points.

North Dakota State shot 44.8 percent in the first half in taking a 36-18 lead. But as the Bison cooled off, the Braves opened up the second half outscoring North Dakota State 19-8, with Juwan Henderson scoring all eight of his points to open the half. The run cut the Bison's lead to 44-37 with 13:17 left in the game, but the Braves didn't get any closer.
