WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Wake Forest says freshman guard Mitchell Wilbekin must sit out a total of three games due to an undisclosed NCAA violation.
The school announced the move shortly before Monday night's game against Bucknell. Wake Forest had announced on Saturday that Wilbekin could sit out up to six games, then said the NCAA ruled Monday that it would be three.
Wilbekin missed Saturday's loss to Florida to start the suspension and can return against Princeton on Dec. 31.
In a statement, athletic director Ron Wellman says the school is pleased NCAA officials "were willing to listen to our reasons for supporting a lesser penalty for Mitchell."
Wilbekin started seven of his first 10 games and is averaging 7.6 points on 39 percent shooting.
