NEW YORK (AP) — St. John's signed women's basketball coach Joe Tartamella to a contract extension through the 2019-20 season Monday.

The 35-year-old coach has been with the program for more than a decade serving as the school's head coach for the past few seasons. He guided the Red Storm to NCAA tournament appearances in his first two years in charge and has the team off to its best start since the 2004-05 season this year.

St. John's won its first 10 games before losing to Indiana State in the championship game of the Red Storm's tournament.
