TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A Michigan man has pleaded guilty in the killing of a 19-year-old woman in northern Ohio 30 years ago.
Andrew Gustafson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and rape charges Monday in a Toledo courtroom. A judge sentenced to him to 15 years in prison.
Gustafson, of Birch Run, Michigan, had once lived outside Toledo near where Janean Brown's body was found in 1983. She'd been she beaten and nearly decapitated.
Her mother and other family members were in the courtroom on Monday.
Gustafson had been a suspect at the time of the killing, but he wasn't arrested until the summer of 2013 after new DNA tests linked him to the killing.
A message seeking comment was left with his attorney.
