NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Dwight Meikle unloaded 28 points and 15 rebounds on Northern Arizona, both career highs, as Hampton posted a 75-66 win at home Sunday.
Meikle, whose previous career high was 16 points, scored 10 in the first half as the Pirates took a 31-23 lead. He finished 10-of-16 shooting from the field and converted 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
Meikle bookended a run of 10 straight points in under three minutes that left the Pirates (6-6) with an 11-point lead, 48-37, midway through the second half.
Hampton shot 43.6 percent from the field, hitting 24 of 55 attempts. Quinton Chievous and Brian Darden each contributed 10 points.
Jaleni Neely was 10 of 13 from the free throw line in leading Northern Arizona (4-8) with 17 points. Gaellan Bewernick and Aaseem Dixon each had 13 points and Bewernick pulled down 13 rebounds.
