WEST JORDAN — Two people were injured in a car crash that closed two main thoroughfares Saturday evening.
At about 7 p.m., a minivan headed north on the Mountain View Corridor was hit by a red, 4-door Honda sedan headed west on 9000 South, according to Deputy Chief Reed Sharman, with the West Jordan Fire Department. The impact of the collision caused the van to spin out of control and hit a pole, he said.
Neither the two adults nor their three children inside the van appeared to be injured, Sharman said. But the children were taken to Riverton Hospital as a precautionary measure, he said.
As for the two people inside the Honda, Reed said one was thrown from the vehicle and the other had to be extricated from it. One of the injured was taken to University Hospital via medical helicopter; the other was transported to Intermountain Medical Center by ambulance.
The family inside the van were all wearing their seat belts, Reed said. He did not know if the occupants of the Honda were properly restrained.
West Jordan police are investigating to see what caused the crash. The intersection was closed for several hours Saturday evening as officers processed the crash scene.
