NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Quinton Chievous, Deron Powers and Brian Darden each scored 15 points and Hampton defeated Tennessee State 66-54 on Friday.

Chievous also grabbed 12 rebounds, Powers had seven assists and Darden hit four 3-pointers for the Pirates (5-6).

Jay Harris had 16 points and Christian Mekowulu had 8 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers (2-9), who shot just 35 percent and had 21 turnovers.

Tennessee State opened an early 12-4 lead and was up 24-15 with less than five minutes to go in the first half before the Pirates scored the last 12 points of the half for a five-point lead. Chievous started the run with four free throws, finishing 9 of 11 from the line, Powers had a 3-pointer and two free throws and Darden had a 3.

The Tigers were within 33-30 early in the second half before Chievous converted a three-point play and made a layup to start a 10-0 run.
