JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Kaven Bernard scored 21 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to help Jackson State snap a seven-game losing streak with a 66-46 win over Southern Miss on Thursday night.
Raeford Worsham contributed 18 points and Janarius Middleton had eight points for Jackson State (2-9), which shot 45.8 percent from the floor and was 16 of 24 from the free throw line. Bernard and Worsham also grabbed six rebounds each.
The Tigers opened with a 24-8 run and took a 38-16 advantage into the break, then held off Southern Miss (5-4) over the final 20 minutes to narrow the Golden Eagles' series lead to 10-2.
Matt Bingaya led Southern Miss with 20 points on 6-for-15 shooting and 10 rebounds. Chip Armelin contributed 10 points for the Golden Eagles, who just began a three-game road trip.
