TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Board of Regents has approved a contract extension for Arizona State basketball coach Herb Sendek, though added provisions to the original deal.

Arizona State agreed to a three-year contract extension with Sendek after last season, when the Sun Devils reached the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2009.

The new deal, approved Thursday, was for one year, through June 2017, with a raise to $1.5 million.

Another year would be added if Arizona State wins 20 games or reaches the NCAA tournament once over the remaining years of the contract or any extension year.

Two years will be added if the Sun Devils win 25 games or appear in the NCAA tournament three times over that same span. He would receive incremental raises with each added year.
