Engesser , Griffin lead Denver past Texas A&M-CC 83-73

DENVER (AP) — Nate Engesser scored 24 points, Cam Griffin added 21 with five assists and three steals to help Denver roll to an 83-73 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night.

Engesser hit three 3-pointers and Griffin scored six points to help Denver build a 38-18 lead. In the second half, Joe Kilgore scored six straight points to pull Texas A&M-CC within 71-65 with 1:29 remaining, but the Islanders did not get closer.

Engesser made five 3-pointers and finished on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Brett Olson scored 14 points, including three treys, and Duke Douglas chipped in 10 points for Denver (5-5), which shot 27 of 43 for 62.8 percent from the floor.

Rashawn Thomas scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Texas A&M CC (3-6). John Jordan had 16 points and Brandon Pye added 13.
