NC-Wilmington holds off Liberty 73-70 in OT

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Jordan Talley hit a runner early in overtime before fouling out with eight points, and NC-Wilmington surged ahead 6-0 in the extra period before hanging on to defeat Liberty 73-70 on Wednesday night.

Craig Ponder scored 18 and Freddie Jackson 16 points for NC-Wilmington (4-3).

Liberty's Joe Retic scored a layup and a 3-pointer in a flurry at the end of regulation before fouling out with a career-high 18 points with 10 seconds left. Ponder hit one of two foul shots but Peter Moller, Big South Freshman of the Week, made the layup to force OT at 62-62.

The Flames (4-6) went 0-for-5 with a turnover and two fouls in the first four minutes of overtime but finished with a rush, Moller scoring five in Liberty's last-minute rush, including a pair of free throws to make it 73-70 with :03 left.

Jackson had a dunk and two foul shots in overtime.
