HOUSTON (AP) — Jherrod Stiggers nailed five 3-pointers and made 12 of 15 free throws for a career-high 33 points as Houston held on to beat Houston Baptist 83-76 on Tuesday night.

Houston Baptist was up 35-31 at the break and led 47-43 with 13:36 remaining in the game. The Cougars started attacking the basket, which sent them to the free throw line where they made 30 of 43 attempts. The Huskies made 15 of only 21 attempts from the line.

Stiggers, who scored 24 in the second half, made two free throws and hit two straight treys to give Houston (5-1) a 51-49 lead. The Huskies answered to retake the lead. Stiggers hit a 3 and made consecutive straight free throws to take the lead, 61-56. The Cougars never trailed again even though Houston Baptist threatened.

Anthony Odunsi had a career-high 18 points and Josh Ibarra added 14 for HBU (4-4).
