ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan linebacker Michael Ferns has asked for and received his release to transfer.
A Michigan spokesman confirmed Tuesday that Ferns can now transfer elsewhere. Ferns did not play this year as a freshman.
A 6-foot-3, 239-pounder from Saint Clairsville, Ohio, Ferns was ranked by Scout.com as the eighth-best middle linebacker in the country among 2014 recruits. He attended the 2014 Under Armour All-America game but did not participate due to injury.
Michigan is without a coach right now after Brady Hoke was fired following this season.
