NEW YORK (AP) — Gerrell Martin scored 15 points, including eight in a game-breaking run in the second half Sunday, and LIU-Brooklyn went on to a 65-49 win over NJIT.

Winfield Willis made a jumper at 16:12 of the second half to put NJIT (4-6) ahead 37-35 but the Blackbirds (2-6) then went on a 25-6 run with Martin making several key plays. His 3-pointer at the 6:19 mark made it 60-43.

Martin Hermannsson added 12 points and seven rebounds for LIU, which out-rebounded the Highlanders 46-37. Nura Zanna had 11 points.

Ky Howard led NJIT with 15 points. The Highlanders shot just 31 percent (18-58), including 4 of 19 from 3-point range, and were just 9 of 19 from the foul line. Damon Lynn was 3 of 18 from the field, going 2 of 11 behind the arc.

LIU made 16 of 24 free throws.
