SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State regulators are struggling to find enough space to meet a growing demand for wine and liquor.

In the past fiscal year, 2.1 million cases of alcohol were bought from state liquor stores and package agencies. That's nearly 10 percent more than the previous year.

Officials with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control say a state warehouse that can hold more than 300,000 cases of beer, wine and liquor is already running out of room -- and it was only built five years ago.

DABC officials say they're trying to keep up and are building five new liquor stores. Those stores will all be at least 10,000 square feet.

State officials say there's an increase in alcohol sales because of changing demographics and an increase in tourism.
