I didn’t cover the huge pep rally at Murray High School this afternoon where David Archuleta sang, but I did catch a glimpse of the madness when I was at Fox 13’s studios this morning.
I got there at 5:45 and a crowd of teens was gathering, cheering everytime someone said “David.” At 6:45 his F-350 stretch pickup truck limo pulled up, and people went nuts. I have to admit even my heart started pounding fast. When he stepped out he smiled that aw-shucks grin at everybody. My first impressions were: he’s short, his security guard is tall, the American Idol producers don’t let anyone get close, he seems shy and nice.
I talked to three girls there from Murray High School. They said they were friends of David’s but couldn’t believe all the other people there. “I guess, like, they like, really want to see him, like, because he’s famous now,” they told me. I couldn’t have said it better!
