ROCKWALL, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors say the man convicted of capital murder in a revenge plot against a North Texas district attorney and others would remain a threat even if imprisoned for life.
Jurors heard testimony Thursday on whether 47-year-old Eric Williams should be executed or spend the rest of his life in prison.
He was convicted last week of fatally shooting Cynthia McLelland, who was found dead last year with her husband, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, in their home near Dallas. Williams is also accused of killing Mike McLelland and an assistant prosecutor but isn't on trial for those deaths.
Defense attorneys say Williams would be harmless in prison. Prosecutors disagree, saying the former county official plotted vengeance after being convicted of stealing county computer monitors.
Testimony is to resume Friday.
