ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — The Aberdeen School District is offering free math classes to parents who wish to better understand what their children are learning.
Superintendent Becky Guffin says the classes help adults understand how math has changed since they were in school. District math coach Sandy Ullrich says the program started after some parents complained they were having a hard time helping their kids with math homework.
The Aberdeen American News (http://bit.ly/1tZtpWC ) reports the district is offering three sessions divided by grade level this year.
Though parents aren't expected to grasp all of the concepts in one night, Ullrich says the classes can help them get a better idea of the kind of homework their children will be assigned.
The free math classes for parents are funded by federal education money.
