(KSL News) A morning hike turned into a mountain rescue after a man was found unconscious on the side of a trail.
The fire department lowered the man down the Pipeline Trail just above Red Butte Gardens using a rope system. Fortunately the ambulance was able to drive up a dirt road and meet rescuers at the trail head, which helped get the hiker to the hospital more quickly.
Capt. Steve Crandall/ Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "Make sure you let someone know when you are hiking in the back country, or even in the foothills. People think you are close to civilization, but even a quarter mile off the trail can be significant."
Rescuers also say to take along plenty of water, even on those early morning hikes.
