ATLANTA, Jun 24, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- An auction for documents and papers of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has been canceled and the items will go to a college in his hometown Atlanta.
Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin's office said the family of Rev. King decided to forego the Sotheby's auction and would sell the 10,000 documents to anonymous donors who will then give them to Morehouse College.
King, who graduated from Morehouse College, was killed April 4, 1968 in Memphis while organizing his Poor People's Campaign.
CNN reports the auction was expected to net between $15 and $30 million.
The papers include drafts of King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech and his Nobel Peace Prize address.
Franklin's office wouldn't reveal how much the anonymous donors paid for the papers.
