PORTLAND, Ore (AP) — Authorities in Oregon say a protest against the Ferguson, Missouri, police shooting has resulted in ten arrests in Portland. City police say they began making arrests after a large group lying in the street refused to clear the roadway. The demonstration last night over the Missouri shooting death of a black man by a white police officer included a speech by the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — The resignation of Darren Wilson from the Ferguson, Missouri, police department will be addressed by officials today who plan to issue a statement regarding the action by the man who fatally shot 18-year-old Michael Brown. Brown's parents plan to attend a church service where the Rev. Al Sharpton plans to preach. Marchers, meanwhile, continue their 7-day trek from Ferguson to the state capital.

NEW YORK (AP) — The early numbers suggest Thanksgiving is really catching on and Black Friday is slipping as a day to shop for holiday gifts. ShopperTrak says U.S. shoppers spent $9.1 billion at stores on Black Friday, a drop of 7 percent compared with the same day last year. Sales on Thanksgiving jumped 24 percent to $3.2 billion. IBM says online sales for Black Friday climbed 9.5 percent.

CHICAGO (AP) — The impact of increased awareness of concussions in athletes is reaching into then high school ranks. A former high school quarterback is suing a the Illinois High School Association. He says it didn't do enough to protect him from concussions when he played and still doesn't do enough. Similar suits are planned in other states. Daniel Bukal, who finished playing in 2003, says he still has lasting effects.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — There's a happy ending for the crew of the fishing boat that sank off the Oregon coast early yesterday morning. The five crew members were rescued by the Coast Guard using a boat and a helicopter. The Coast Guard says it received a mayday call about 4:20 a.m. saying that the 75-foot Blazer saying was taking on water. The Coast Guard is investigating the sinking.
