LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say seven people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and one person was arrested on a drug possession charge during a pre-Thanksgiving DUI checkpoint in Las Vegas.
Nearly three dozen police personnel worked the sobriety checkpoint on Desert Inn near Valley View Boulevard. It operated from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday.
Police say the checkpoint is an effort to raise awareness about their zero-tolerance policy toward impaired driving. It kicks off a season of increased patrols aimed at curbing DUIs during the holidays.
Nearly 2,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 28 people were tested for sobriety.
