This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
What's more exciting than having your business be so successful it turns into a franchise? That's the story for Wood Creations in West Haven. Since their launch three years ago, they've grown to include six locations in three states, four that are franchises.
Wood Creations is a wood craft store specializing in take and make crafts, shelves, picture frames, vinyl and craft supplies. They try to keep it simple so anybody can do it and at a price point so those who change their crafts seasonally can do so comfortably. They employ a full design team to stay on top of the newest trends and designs, and they go to craft shows across the country collecting ideas.
The owners and founders, Nate Salisbury, Kory Anderson and Rhett Bonham, say their wives don't let them forget whose idea it really was to start Wood Creations. They watched their wives become heavily involved with wood crafts. Not only was their money disappearing into this new hobby, but they were spending hours cutting the crafts out in their garages. Research showed how quickly wood crafts were gaining in popularity, in the millions of dollars of revenue every year, so they decided to jump right in.
Kory says they have so much interest in Wood Creations their inventory flies off the shelves. Their customer base grew to the point they knew it was time to expand and open a second location of Wood Creations. So, they opened in Idaho Falls in June 2013. That same year, they also franchised the business when locations opened in Taylorsville and St. George. This summer they opened three more franchises in Taylorsville, Las Vegas and Boise. They also moved their main woodcutting operation to a separate facility.
The product mix at Wood Creations is constantly changing. They bring out a new selection of crafts for every holiday and season. Right now is their busy season, since Christmas is one of the top-selling holidays. Crafters can also check their website, woodcreationscrafts.com, for more ideas and how-to tutorials.
