This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Utah's business climate has been the object of national attention for several years now. The accolades are spread across the state, but a growing area of focus is Ogden, which is quickly becoming one of Northern Utah's strongest business centers. In fact, Forbes Magazine named it as one of the Top 20 Places for Business and Careers.
Olive and Dahlia on Historic 25th Street in Ogden is contributing to that business climate. Housed in a red brick building, this retail shop is a full-service florist and is the ultimate garden and home décor stop with a seasonal focus. You'll find everything from cut flowers to garden and home décor. This year they're celebrating their 10th anniversary of being in business.
It's not too late to pick up some Halloween decorations. This year, Olive and Dahlia brought in a couple of great design lines, like Gallerie II. However, Christmas is the biggest season for this retail shop, especially as a carrier of Mark Roberts Christmas Fairies. Last year design manager Jeremy Trentelman put up 11 Christmas trees in the shop. And the items on them are all available for sale. Last year Jeremy entered his upside down Christmas tree into a national competition and came away with a second place finish.
Jeremy is an accredited and certified member of the American Institute of Floral Designers and is the current president of the Utah Professional Floral Association. He also happens to be an artist, so much of the artwork you see hanging on the walls at Olive and Dahlia is his. The two owners, Patrick Pocey (poe-see) and Deon (dee-on) Gooch give Jeremy full creative license, and the business has grown with help from his design expertise.
While the retail is a big part of the business, floral design is also a main area of focus. Jeremy is creative, and that seems to resonate with customers looking for original arrangements for special events, occasions or just because. This is all part of the success formula leading Olive and Dahlia to reach 10 years of being in business.
