An assistant manager of a truck stop 25 miles east of Buffalo says more than 100 tractor-trailers are parked there. More than 150 more trucks are reported to be stuck at a neighboring truck stop. Still other trucks are waiting out the storm at Thruway service areas between Rochester and the Pennsylvania border. A storm that began Monday has buried parts of the Buffalo area under as much as 6 feet of snow.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A bill that would impose some of the nation's most stringent abortion restrictions has cleared an Ohio House committee. The GOP-led House Health Committee passed the so-called heartbeat bill 11-6 after several emotional hours of testimony. The divisive measure had languished without a hearing since it was introduced more than a year ago. It would restrict most abortions at the first detectable fetal heartbeat, which can be as early as six weeks into pregnancy. A nearly identical bill cleared the House in 2011 but was stopped in the state Senate.
CALHOUN, La. (AP) — Police say five members of a Texas family heading to Disney World have been killed in a car crash in Louisiana. State police say three children and two adults died when their car veered off an interstate last night and rolled over. Police say the driver was a 16-year-old who likely fell asleep at the wheel. The driver and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
