WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a Winnemucca man who apparently fell out of a moving car on a state highway.

The Nevada Highway Patrol identified the victim Friday as 33-year-old Michael Gardner.

The patrol says Gardner was a passenger in the front seat of a white Chevrolet Impala traveling south on State Route 294 when he apparently exited the vehicle and suffered injuries to his upper body when he hit the pavement 6 miles south of Winnemucca about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators say the driver of the car, 31-year-old Kara Lynn Osborne of Winnemucca, returned to the scene where Gardner later was pronounced dead.

The patrol says a preliminary investigation suggests alcohol may have been a factor.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Zach Peterson at 775-623-6511.
