HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Matt Bingaya had 20 points and 10 rebounds on Friday night, and Southern Miss opened the season with an 86-63 win over NAIA William Carey.
Southern Miss went on a 22-3 run early in second half capped by Bingaya's jumper at the 10:40 mark to pull away from the Crusaders for a 64-44 lead.
Bingaya was 7 of 12 from the field and the Golden Eagles shot 56.0 percent overall while holding William Carey to 38.1 percent.
Shadell Millinghaus had 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Chip Armelin and Dallas Anglin scored 11 apiece.
William Carey played close with the Eagles for the first 22 minutes, trailing 27-25 with 5:46 left in the first half and pulling within one point just after halftime.
Deion Weeks was 3 of 5 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points for the Crusaders.
