PARIS, Idaho (AP) — Voters in southeast Idaho have rejected a $3 million bond to replace a courthouse built in 1885.
The Idaho State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1EizBk4) that the bond to build a new courthouse in Bear Lake County received about 58 percent of the vote Tuesday, short of the super-majority of 66 percent needed.
Bear Lake County Clerk Kerry Haddock says the current courthouse in the town of Paris is the oldest active courthouse in the state.
The original courthouse has had additions and remodels over the years.
Haddock says a committee formed about five years ago to look at alternatives to address serious problems with the courthouse's electrical system and make the building compliant with the American With Disabilities Act.
