SOUTH JORDAN — A street race in South Jordan ended in a rollover crash with one passenger being ejected Saturday night, South Jordan police say.

Just after 11 p.m., South Jordan police Corporal Sam Winkler said two pickup trucks were racing southbound "in excess of freeway speeds" at 9000 South and Redwood Road.

"One of the trucks didn't see traffic ahead of them. When they tried to avoid a vehicle, they hit the rear-end of an SUV, causing both vehicles to spin out," said Winkler.

The driver and passenger of the SUV received minor injuries and were treated and released at the scene.

The pickup truck continued sliding off the road and rolled several times into a field.

The three passengers riding in the front of the truck were not wearing seatbelts and one person was ejected, Winkler said.

"All three of those persons sustained minor to serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals," Winkler said.

There was a fourth person in the vehicle who was wearing a seatbelt and because of the severity of the rollover was also transported to a local hospital.

The participants are believed to be between 18 and 20 years old.

Winkler said investigations are still ongoing, and speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in this incident.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
