MOJAVE, Calif. (AP) — Billionaire Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson is vowing to find out what caused the crash of his prototype space tourism craft that killed one of two test pilots. Speaking Saturday at the Mojave Air and Space Port, Branson said "We are determined to find out what went wrong," asserting that safety has always been the top priority of the program.
MOJAVE, Calif. (AP) — Federal transportation safety investigators are in California to determine why Virgin Galactic's experimental space plane crashed on Friday. Meanwhile, Peter Siebold, the injured test pilot who survived the spacecraft's destruction by parachuting to safety is described as alert and talking with his family and doctors. Co-pilot Michael Alsbury was killed.
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — National Transportation Safety Board officials probing the crash of a small plane into a Wichita, Kansas, flight training facility say the cockpit voice recorder has been recovered but it's unclear whether a flight data recorder survived. Meanwhile, the bodies of all four victims who died as a result of Thursday's crash have been removed from the building.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The Philippine military says Abu Sayyaf guerrillas have killed at least six soldiers who were guarding a road project that has been delayed by militant attacks in the impoverished southern region of the country. An Army colonel says he has deployed additional troops to pursue the attackers.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican authorities say DNA testing confirms that three U.S. citizens were among the four bodies found shot to death near the border more than two weeks after they went missing. The Mexican father of the three Americans had previously identified his children from photos of the bodies. Officials say they're investigating a possible police connection to the deaths.
