ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa woman who was in a coma for several weeks after being hit by a truck in St. Petersburg has given birth to a healthy baby girl.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1DD1zVH ) reports 36-year-old Jenny Quiles recently awoke from the coma and on Wednesday gave birth by C-section to 6-pound Angel. Obstetrician Jennifer Gilby says Quiles remains in intensive care.

Police say Quiles was hit by a tow truck driver as she crossed a St. Petersburg street on Oct. 15. An investigation is underway but they say the driver will likely be issued a citation.

Gilby says new father Angel Quiles is optimistic and that the baby has given the family a sense of comfort.

The Tribune reports Jenny Quiles was heading to a doctor's appointment when she was hit.
