CHEYNEY, Pa. (AP) — Frank Pogue is taking the reins as interim president at Cheyney University, having retired this summer as president of Grambling State University in Louisiana.
The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education named Pogue to the job on Thursday. He's also previously served as president of Edinboro University and Chicago State University.
Cheyney's acting president, Phyllis Dawkins, will remain in that role until Pogue starts Nov. 3.
The school's previous president, Michelle Howard-Vital, retired in July.
Pogue has a bachelor's degree from Alabama State and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
Cheyney University, in the Philadelphia suburbs, dates to 1837 and is the nation's oldest historically black college or university.
