VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) — Two-time Ryder Cup player David Howell completes the five-man panel that will select the European team's captain for the 2016 competition at Hazeltine.

Howell was nominated by the European Tour's tournament committee during a meeting Tuesday and joins the last three captains — Paul McGinley, Jose Maria Olazabal and Colin Montgomerie — and European Tour chief executive George O'Grady on the panel.

The tour says the decision on who takes over from McGinley as captain will be made "in the early part of 2015."

McGinley led Europe to a 16½-11½ win over the United States at Gleneagles last month.

Howell played in Europe's Ryder Cup wins in 2004 and '06.

Darren Clarke and Miguel Angel Jimenez have been mentioned as possible captains for Hazeltine.
