OGDEN, UTAH - Weber State offensive tackle David Hale (6-5, 305 Sr. / Plain City, Utah- Fremont HS) was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round. He was the 34th pick in the fourth round and the 133rd overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft.
Hale becomes the third offensive linemen in the last three years to be drafted. In 2006, twins Paul and Pat McQuistan (6-6, 315 each) were drafted. Paul was taken in the third round by the Oakland Raiders and Pat was taken in the seventh round by the Dallas Cowboys. Both players are still active.
"Dave is a competitive type of guy," said WSU head coach Ron McBride. "There's no one more deserving than Dave. He's worked hard both on and off the field to prepare himself for this opportunity. He's a good student and citizen as well which is a real plus for him."
Hale played in 44 career games for the Wildcats and was a starter in 41 of those contests. He served as the offensive team captain for the past two seasons and was a big reason the Wildcats produced the Big Sky's leading rusher each of the past two seasons in running back Trevyn Smith.
Hale earned Honorable Mention All-Big Sky Conference honors his sophomore and junior campaigns. This past season he was named First Team All-Big Sky Conference; First Team NCAA Division FCS all-America by the American Football Coaches Association; Second Team all-America by the Associated Press and Third Team all-America by The Sports Network.
Hale is expected to finish up his degree this Summer in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. He is married to former WSU volleyball standout Shelby Walford.
