SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Heavy rain swamped much of Utah over the weekend, shutting down a sewage treatment plant, damaging homes and causing a moving car to plunge into a river. Garfield County sheriff's deputies say the ground gave way because of heavy flooding and plunged the car into the Paria River. A man and woman had to be rescued by watercraft.

SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) — Police say a preliminary autopsy has ruled out violent assault in the deaths of five Utah family members, including three children. Police said yesterday there was no evidence of stabbing or gunshot wounds or other visible injuries to the five found dead Saturday night in their home in Springville, about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City.

PRICE, Utah (AP) — Two people have been charged with manslaughter in the December 2013 death of a Price man who overdosed on heroin. Jason Jaimez and Shelbi Mower were charged Friday in 7th District Court in the death of 47-year-old Trevor Whiteside. According to charging documents, the two 37-year-olds recklessly caused his death by supplying him with heroin.

TREMONTON, Utah (AP) — A former Tremonton police officer who once investigated sex abuse cases has pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting a 15-year-old girl. Jeremy Rose, who left the force in July, is accused of persuading the girl to submit about 150 nude photos of herself to a fake pornography email account he created. Prosecutors say the 37-year-old Rose also had thousands of images of the teen that had been surreptitiously taken of her in her bedroom.
