CLEVELAND (AP) — A county Democratic chairman in Ohio calls James Traficant "a larger than life character who will long be remembered." The 73-year-old former congressman has died, four days after being injured in a tractor accident on his Youngstown, Ohio farm. The colorful Democrat became the second person to be expelled from Congress since the Civil War when the House voted him out in 2002 after a federal jury convicted him of taking bribes and kickbacks. The former sheriff spent seven years in prison.

NEW YORK (AP) — Four U.S. governors have made a surprise visit to Afghanistan as part of a delegation to receive counterterrorism briefings and greet troops stationed there. UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The Russian foreign minister has issued a blistering attack on the West and NATO in a speech today at the United Nations. Sergey Lavrov (SEHR'-gay LAHV'-rahf) accused the West of being unable to change its Cold War "genetic code" and said the United States must abandon its claims to "eternal uniqueness." Immediately before Lavrov spoke, the German foreign minister said Russia's actions in Ukraine were a crime.

VENICE, Italy (AP) — George Clooney is no longer a bachelor. His representative says the actor has married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin (AH'-muhl ah-luh-muh-DEEN') in a private ceremony in Italy. The one-line statement is expected to be the only communication on the much-anticipated marriage. A flotilla of photographers followed Clooney to his luxury hotel in Venice before he disappeared inside as the sun set.
