OGDEN — Weber High football coach Matt Hammer knows exciting football, and his Warriors are starting to play it.
Friday, Hammer led the long-suffering Weber Warriors to a dramatic comeback victory, beating Northridge 30-27 in an overtime victory at home.
The Knights opened the game in a big way as BYU recruit Dayan Lake scored on an 8-yard run to give Northridge a 6-0 first-quarter lead. Then the Knights’ Ben Jackson scored on a 2-yard rush to make the lead 13-0.
Weber quickly responded with a 54-yard run by Nick Austin to cut the deficit to 13-7. However, the Knights responded with another score to move the advantage back to two scores, 20-7, at the end of the first quarter.
Weber High kicker Kaleb Clark kicked three field goals in the game.
The Warriors’ Hunter Bell opened the second quarter’s scoring, driving in on a 1-yard run. Lake scored another touchdown on a 1-yard run to give Northridge a 27-14 lead. Weber kicker Kaleb Clark kicked a 22-yard field goal as the half ended.
Weber opened the third quarter with a touchdown, bringing the score to 27-24. Then in the fourth quarter, Clark booted another field goal, this time a 20-yard attempt to tie the game and send it to overtime.
With his success in the game, Clark got another chance to score and connected on another 20-yard field goal to give the Warriors the region win.
Weber’s record is now 3-3, while Northridge drops to 2-4.
The Warriors play at Layton next week, while the Knights host Fremont.
