KANE COUNTY — Wildlife officials are asking for help to identify those responsible for the recent poaching of two fawns.
The two dead fawns were found by “concerned citizens” on Sept. 1, according to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The fawns were located in Kane County about two miles east of the Highway 89 and Highway 14 junction.
“An investigation revealed that both fawns had been shot and the meat left to waste,” a statement from DWR reads. “Evidence at the scene indicated that both deer were likely shot with archery equipment.”
Officials said a green ATV was spotted in the area around the time the fawns were found and may be connected to the incident. Those with information about the poaching can contact the DWR by calling its hotline at 1-800-662-3337 or DWR officer Zed Broadhead at 435-691-2156.
A reward is available for information that leads to the prosecution of those responsible for the poaching, according to the DWR.
The archery deer hunting season started on Aug. 16 and ended Sept. 12.
