MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Medical College of Wisconsin is exploring the possibility of opening a pharmacy school.
A feasibility study will look at curriculum, class size and tuition and possible campuses in Green Bay or central Wisconsin. It will also evaluate developing specialty tracks in Milwaukee, such as genomics and personalized pharmacy, oncology, mental health and research.
The college has submitted a proposal for the study to its endowment.
The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy forecasts a shortage of 157,000 pharmacists nationwide by the year 2020. The Medical College says need for pharmacists in the Midwest, particularly in Wisconsin, exceeds the national average.
The college is opening a new medical school campus in Green Bay next year and another campus in central Wisconsin in 2016.
